Speed Racer Intro Premieres on Extra

Last week, the animated intro cinematic to Speed Racer: The Game premiered on NBC's Extra. I had the opportunity to work on the cinematic with Treanor Brother's Animation this past fall.

It was a challenging project. We had a very large set to deal with, as well as a number of different vehicles and characters. Getting all of the cars to render with raytracing and motion blur was no small feat. But we were very satisfied with the results.

The game is still in development, so that's about all I can say for now. I'll write more when I can. The game will be released in May to coincide with the movie, which is written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers of Matrix Trilogy fame.

We mastered the project in HD, so it's a shame to see it compressed to death online, but here's a peak anyway. This is the truncated version of the cinematic that played on Extra last week:

Welcome to Set Driven Key!

Set Driven Key is a new 3D animation weblog. Its main topic will be the method and process behind 3D animation.

I hope to make Set Driven Key of particular interest to industry professionals and students with in-depth tutorials and weekly quick tips.

I'll also be posting news updates and editorials. Animation fans will be able to find reviews on features by studios such as Pixar and DreamWorks, as well as recommendations on the latest art films and shorts.

And for anyone who is interested in me or my work, check in to see when I've updated my portfolio or completed a project. I'll make sure to post some of my work here every now and then. But you can also feel free to browse my portfolio site.

I'll be updating regularly over the next few weeks. Until then, thanks for visiting! I hope you'll check back soon!
