Littlest Pet Shop
The video game adaptation of Littlest Pet Shop, a collaboration by Electronic Arts and Hasbro, was released a few weeks ago for Wii and DS.
I spent this past spring working on the intro and outro cinematics for the game. It was a fun project, and we wound up with some really nice looking renders.

Cute stuff. My nine-year-old cousin loves the finished movies, so I'll consider it a job well done.

Mocap Abroad
Just got back from a week in the UK on a motion capture shoot for a new project we're starting at TBA. The client flew us out to direct a bunch of actors for a series of cinematics that we'll be putting together over the next couple months.
We shot on one of the biggest mocap stages in the world. With over 50 optical cameras in a capture volume the size of a basketball court, we were only using a fraction of their capacity. The data looks great. I can't wait to start piecing it all together.
Hopefully when it's all released, I'll be able to talk about some details from the project and post some images. In the meantime, here's a photo of part of the cast and crew on stage. That's me on the far left:

Rig Preview
Here's an early look at the control rig for the pumpkin character in my short.

Not quite done yet, but far enough along to start blocking. The hierarchy and basic range of motion are all in place. From here on out, there are just details to add.
It's set up for full facial animation (via the sliders on the left) and squash and stretch (via the control curves). It's built mainly on blendshapes, plus a few bones for fine-tuning silhouettes. For simplicity's sake, I tried to keep the amount of on-rig GUI to a minimum, opting instead to drive many of the controls with custom attributes in the channel editor. This was a combination of personal preference and what seamed appropriate for this specific rig.

Happy Autumn!
I'm happy to announce that after a brief hiatus, my short film is back in production. What better time of year could there be for pumpkins? I'll be sure to post some production stills and other odds and ends along the way. Stay tuned for more updates.

Speed Racer Intro Premieres on Extra
Last week, the animated intro cinematic to Speed Racer: The Game premiered on NBC's Extra. I had the opportunity to work on the cinematic with Treanor Brother's Animation this past fall.
It was a challenging project. We had a very large set to deal with, as well as a number of different vehicles and characters. Getting all of the cars to render with raytracing and motion blur was no small feat. But we were very satisfied with the results.
The game is still in development, so that's about all I can say for now. I'll write more when I can. The game will be released in May to coincide with the movie, which is written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers of Matrix Trilogy fame.
We mastered the project in HD, so it's a shame to see it compressed to death online, but here's a peak anyway. This is the truncated version of the cinematic that played on Extra last week:
